Sexist Toys?? (Part 2)

So continuing the discussion on whether children’s toys are twisting their minds into vile sexist pigs is the big debate on whether it is okay for a boy to play with Barbie and a girl to play with an Action Man.

Well it would seem that people are far more accepting to see a little girl destroying her toys with a toy tank than they are to come into a room and see a boy playing dress up with a princess. But why is this?

Well this is actually down to the parents, a lot of fathers will not feel comfortable watching their lad playing with a Barbie doll but wouldn’t mind if their daughter was playing with an Action man simply because it makes the daughter a bit cool. It has a lot to do with many fathers not wanting their sons to turn out gay which is ridiculous as playing with a toy like this has nothing to do with it.

All of these sexist arguments are based around the girls not being able to play with the boys toys but it is just as unacceptable if not more so for boys not to play with the girls toys. It would certainly seem that this time it is not the corportate companies that are to blame but the people themselves.

There is no such thing as a sexist or a racist toy, the golliwog was taken out of proportion to be a racist toy. The toy is released and the reaction that it gets is from the public. If they choose to believe it is sexist or racist then that is their choice but personally I do not feel that when a company are designing one of those Christmas toys that they actually set out to make it sexist in any way at all. It is you the consumer that must really decide this one.
